The LRL-2M retractable lifeline keeps the webbing taut and retracted throughout the worker’s movement, instead of leaving it hanging as a conventional lanyard does. That detail changes two things in the field: it eliminates the trip hazard of a loose line and, above all, reduces free fall distance before the system engages. Its mechanism locks the webbing upon detecting sudden acceleration and limits arrest to 1010 mm, with a maximum transmitted force of 4 kN. The 1-inch Dyneema webbing provides high strength with little bulk, while the ABS housing protects the mechanism from impact and dust.
Before assigning it, verify two conditions. First, the certified capacity is 100 kg, lower than that of the harnesses in the line, so confirm the user’s weight including equipment. Second, it requires sufficient fall clearance below the work point: the arrest distance plus the worker’s height define that calculation. In addition, it connects to the dorsal D-ring of a full body harness through the swivel snap hook, never to a positioning belt. Therefore, select it within a complete system with compatible anchorage, pre-shift inspection and user training, as required by NOM-017-STPS-2024. Remove it from service if it has already arrested a fall.
Recommended for construction work, scaffold work, building cleaning and repair, telephone towers, electrical sector activities and forestry. It is especially suitable for frequent movement and in spaces where a long lanyard would get in the way or create a trip hazard. It fits civil works, structural assembly, telecommunications and industrial maintenance.
