The LVC-1.8 positioning lanyard serves the same function as a webbing lanyard, but with 1/2-inch twisted nylon rope. That construction provides flexibility flat webbing does not have: the rope conforms better around poles and irregular profiles, and is easier to handle with gloves. Its 6 ft end in steel snap hooks with a double-locking mechanism, which require two deliberate motions to open and prevent accidental release. At 782 grams, it is light equipment to carry through a full shift. It is also available in 5/8-inch diameter.
One restriction should be clear, however, before any commercial consideration. This lanyard is positioning equipment and must not be used to arrest a fall. It has no energy absorber, so it would transmit the full impact force to the worker’s body. Its place is in the restraint system, connected to the side rings of a belt or harness, while fall arrest is handled by a shock-absorbing lanyard or a retractable lifeline connected to the dorsal ring. Therefore, always select it as a complement, with compatible anchorage, pre-shift inspection and user training, as required by NOM-017-STPS-2024. Never tie the rope back onto itself. Supplied in a case of 20 pieces.
