The GR101 rope grab is the component that turns a rope into an actual fall arrest system. It slides freely along the vertical lifeline as the worker climbs or descends, and locks immediately upon detecting a fall, with no action required from the user. Its 45-grade steel body withstands 16 kN, and the 54 mm eye allows connection through a carabiner or a shock-absorbing lanyard to the harness dorsal D-ring. The mechanism opens manually by pressure for installation or removal from the rope, and includes a safety pin that prevents accidental opening.
Its role within the system should be clear: the vertical lifeline does not arrest a fall on its own, nor does the rope grab work without rope or harness. All three elements operate together, and the rope grab is precisely the link often missing when only the rope is purchased. Always verify that the line diameter matches the device, since a rope grab installed on an unsuitable rope may fail to lock properly. Install it in the orientation marked on the body, check before each shift that the mechanism opens and closes freely and shows no deformation or corrosion, and remove it from service if it has been subjected to fall arrest, as required by NOM-017-STPS-2024.
Recommended for general construction work, scaffold work, building cleaning and repair, telephone towers, electrical sector activities and forestry. It is essential when climbing and descending fixed ladders, towers or façades, where the worker needs continuous protection while moving vertically. It fits civil works, structural assembly, telecommunications and industrial maintenance.
